Course Description: This elective allows students to experience psychiatry in a general hospital setting by interviewing patients on the inpatient medical-surgical wards, and formulating differential diagnoses, assessments, and treatment recommendations with a psychopharmacologic and behavioral focus. Common diagnoses include delirium, dementia, PTSD, and depressive, substance use, and personality disorders. Medicolegal issues, such as decision-making capacity and mental health holds, also arise frequently.
Prerequisites: Psychiatry 110, Neurology 110, and Medicine 110.
