Course Description: The biochemical basis for understanding the mechanisms of dental caries will be presented. Topics include tooth ultrastructure, tooth chemistry, plaque metabolism, immunology, protective functions of saliva, enzymes, caries risk assessment, the roles of fluoride, and mechanisms of de- and remineralization.
