Course Description: Students will act as interns in the emergency departments at ZSFG and UCSF evaluating and managing acutely ill patients and learning procedural skills. EM faculty and senior residents provide direct supervision and bedside teaching. Students work clinical shifts in the emergency department, participate on EMS ambulance ride-alongs, and attend didactic sessions on suturing, splinting, simulation, ultrasound, and toxicology (at the Poison Control Center).
Prerequisites: Completion of clinical rotation in Medicine, Pediatrics, OB-GYN, and Surgery.
Restrictions: Fourth-year medical students only. For rotations in months of May-Dec., preference will be given to those seeking a career in Emergency Medicine.
